Equip: Development for Aspiring Leaders

Anyone can be a leader and there are leaders at every level at the University of Kansas. The Equip Program, facilitated by the HR Learning & Development team, is dedicated to helping you lead from your current position. 

Program overview:

The Equip program consists of four class sessions that go through powerful concepts and tools designed to help you lead with greater confidence and effectiveness. During Equip, you will have the opportunity to explore the following topics:

  • Leading yourself
  • Leading others
  • Communication and Feedback
  • Navigating Change

These sessions offer a combination of theory and practical application, ensuring you can immediately implement what you learn. Whether you're a new or a seasoned professional, you'll gain valuable tools to lead more effectively in any workplace setting.

Each session of Equip builds on the previous session. Attendees should plan to attend all four of the in-person class sessions to complete the program.

  • Managers and team leaders looking to support their teams through effective self-management.
  • Anyone interested in personal and professional growth.

What to Expect:

  • In-person conversation and networking: In 2027, this program will be conducted on site once on the Lawrence campus and once at the KUMC campus in Kansas City, allowing for an opportunity to connect.
  • Actionable insights: Walk away with practical strategies and activities that can be applied to support your work at KU.
  • Expert guidance: Learn from experienced facilitators with a passion for leadership development.

Registration Details:

There is no fee to participate in this program, nor is there an application process. It is open to all University of Kansas staff members who are able to attend each of the four in-person class sessions. 

In 2027, this program will be offered once on the KUMC campus and once on the Lawrence campus. 

This program is primarily for professional development and leadership growth. There is no stipend for this experience, nor is there an expectation that program participants receive preference in job searches at KU.
