The Pregnant Workers Fairness is available to any employee experiencing pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions, including lactation.

Pregnant Workers Fairness Act: Provides reasonable workplace accommodations for limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions.

Process: To request a reasonable workplace accommodation for the conditions described above, complete the workplace accommodation form. Medical information may be requested to substantiate the request.

Examples of reasonable accommodations under the PWFA include:

  • Light duty or help with manual labor and lifting.
  • Additional breaks
  • Flexible scheduling for prenatal or postnatal appointments
  • Time off for recovery from childbirth, miscarriage, bedrest, mastitis, and more

Once Human Resources receives an accommodation request, the employee can expect outreach to engage in the interactive process which may include:

  • Discussion with the employee regarding their request
  • HR sharing the request with the employee’s supervisor/unit for a determination of implementing the accommodation
