Information for Rehired Employees
We are providing rehired KU employees the following notice about the New Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options and Your Health Coverage (pdf), as required under the provisions of the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA). ***If you have been employed with another state of Kansas agency, including a Board of Regents university, in any capacity within the last 18 months, it is imperative that you provide information about that employment so a determination can be made about ACA eligibility. Please email that information to HRACA@ku.edu.
- If you are a benefits-eligible faculty or staff member (i.e., you are employed in a regular position with at least a 48% FTE), you are eligible to participate in the State Employee Health Plan. For more information, please visit the HRM Benefits webpage . The Benefits Office will email you additional information about the State Employee Health Plan and the other benefits associated with your KU employment. This notice is not intended to encourage you to purchase coverage through the federal exchange rather than the State Employee Health Plan.
- If you are a faculty or staff member who is not benefits-eligible (i.e., you are not employed in a regular position with at least a 48% FTE), you are not automatically eligible to participate in the State Employee Health Plan. You could be eligible for the State Employee Health Plan, depending on the number of hours you worked for a state of Kansas agency over a 12 month measurement period. Additional information on ACA-Eligibility is available on HRM's ACA-Related webpages. If you are found ACA-Eligible, you will be notified by email. You can find information about the Health Insurance Marketplace in the notice provided, or on the federal exchange’s website. his notice is not intended to encourage you to purchase coverage through the federal exchange; it only provides information in case you have an interest in reviewing the coverage options available through the federal exchange.
- If you are a graduate student (graduate teaching assistant, graduate research assistant and/or graduate assistant) who is employed in a position that is at least 50% FTE for a minimum of eight consecutive work weeks during the fall or spring semesters, or a minimum of four consecutive work weeks from the end of the spring semester to the beginning of the fall semester, you are eligible to participate in the Kansas Board of Regents Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan. If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for the graduate student plan, please see the information below in Section D about the basic (non-graduate student) health insurance plan. You could also be eligible for the State Employee Health Plan, depending on the number of hours you worked for a state of Kansas agency over a 12 month measurement period. - If you are a graduate student who does not meet eligibility requirements for the Kansas Board of Regents Graduate Student Health Plan, or you are an undergraduate student hourly, you might be eligible to participate in the Kansas Board of Regents basic student health plan. For more information, please visit KU’s UnitedHealthcare Student Resources website. The applicable brochure contains additional information regarding eligibility requirements. You could also be eligible for the State Employee Health Plan, depending on the number of hours you worked for a state of Kansas agency over a 12 month measurement period.
