Get connected to licensed mental health professionals at no cost who can provide you with the short-term support you need to navigate through the following issues:

This support includes:

  • 8 free solution-focused counseling sessions per incident per year
  • In-person, telehealth, phone, and chat options
  • Flexible times including evenings and weekends
  • A diverse network of providers giving you the flexibility to select your cultural, clinical, gender, and location preferences
  • Providers with availability for an appointment within two weeks of contact

Monthly EAP Webinars for 1 HealthQuest credit

ComPsych provides monthly webinars on a variety of wellness-related topics that are approximately 30-45 minutes long. Typically, the webinars are on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 1:00pm, but you have 7 days after the live event to watch the recording and earn your 1 HealthQuest Credit.

Registration is required, and you will need your 11-character State Employee ID Number that can be found on your paystub in HR Pay in order to receive the credit.

If you are a benefits-eligible faculty and staff member, you, your spouse, your dependents, and all members of your household can access the EAP. Benefits-eligible employees who have been laid off/terminated can also use the EAP for six months after leaving employment at KU.

When you call, you will speak with a Guidance Consultant, a master’s- or PhD-level intake counselor who will collect some general information about you and discuss your needs. They will connect you to the appropriate resource based on the information that you provide.

If seeking counseling, the Guidance Consultant will provide the names of counselors who can assist you. You can then set up an appointment to speak with a counselor over the phone or schedule a face-to-face or telehealth visit

Yes, utilizing the EAP counseling services are strictly confidential. No identifiable information about your participation in the program is provided to your employer.

In order to be a current provider offered on your list of options, the provider must be able to schedule an appointment for you within two weeks, although many telehealth providers have much shorter availability.

Depending on your specific needs, you should be provided with more than one option for providers. If none are a good fit, you can call ComPsych and request more provider options.

Yes. You can also access counseling for anxiety, depression, stress, grief, life adjustments, and other emotional well-being needs

Services renew a year from the time of your first appointment. If you have a new issue, you can get 8 new sessions before the end of the year. ComPsych provides short-term, solution-focused counseling, and some issues may require longer-term care or a higher level of clinical care, available through your health insurance.

As a benefits-eligible employee, you are offered the 8 free counseling sessions through ComPsych as an optional benefit. There are also free on-campus counseling options for faculty and staff that may have limited availability:

There is also a wider array of local mental health providers that you can access through the behavioral health benefit in your medical plan. Depending on your insurance plan, you will be required to pay either a co-pay or the full amount of the session if your deductible has not yet been met.
