HR Partners

An HR Partner is a senior HR professional who is the strategic link between the KU’s centralized HR and their assigned unit(s). They work closely with supervisors, managers, and leaders to align HR practices with the needs of the unit. The HR Partner role requires the partner to navigate complex situations, which often need more than one area of expertise within HR, and identify solutions that are in line with the university’s objectives. 

Human Resource Partner (HRP)

HR Partners focus on building relationships, providing guidance, and leading changes for HR related matters. 

The responsibilities of an HR Partner include:

Strategic HR planning 

  • Preparing units for the future work of HR.
  •  Support for transition processes (offboarding -> hiring -> onboarding -> development).
  • Support in succession planning.

Partnering with unit leaders and employees

  • Provide guidance on HR related matters.
  • Delivering and sharing HR processes within the unit in a way that helps to enable the unit.
  • Building relationships, knowing and understanding the HR needs and challenges of the assigned units.

Managing complex HR issues 

  • Providing guidance with facts, data, compliance driven information. 
  • Providing support or helping to remove barriers.
  • Supporting HR compliance and reducing risk.

Addressing challenges with HR policies and procedures

  • Keeps the HR system going and digs in where there are hiccups.
  • Support, build, and shape positive work culture and employee experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of HR processes and best practices. Understands how HR processes are expected to be delivered.
