Goal Setting and Alignment with Jayhawks Rising Strategic Plan

Annual goal setting ensures that the staff you supervise know what is expected of them in their positions, and helps you clearly communicate priorities for their work and the unit. If you have not already done so, please meet one-on-one with your employees to identify their goals and expectations for the January 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 evaluation period. As we previously announced, we are transitioning to a fiscal year evaluation time period.

If you have already established clear goals and expectations for your employees, now would be a good time to check in with them on their progress, and provide and document feedback on their performance toward their job responsibilities and expectations. Human Resource Management has developed a video on Best Practices in Goal Setting, and a presentation on Best Practices in Providing Feedback. We encourage you to view these resources and share them with your employees.

Alignment with Jayhawks Rising

Starting with this FY2023 Goal Plan, Unclassified Professional Staff (UPS) and University Support Staff (USS) have the option to align their goals with the 13 objectives under three institutional priorities in the Jayhawks Rising strategic plan. In thinking about goal setting, use the available our online resource as a guide to have a structured conversation with the staff you supervise about how to set a measurable goal that aligns with one or more of the 13 institutional objectives.

Document Goals in MyTalent

You should document goals on each staff member’s goal plan in the MyTalent system. We recommend you also document feedback on the staff member’s goal plan. All available job aids and tutorial videos are on this HRM website.

Additional training for the MyTalent performance management system is available by contacting hrdept@ku.edu. Thank you for supporting the professional development of your staff by engaging actively in the performance management process.
