Access Direct Report's Goal Plan and Add a Goal

  1. Log in to MyTalent with your KU online ID and password
  2. You can access your direct report's Goal Plan via one of two options:
    1. Option 1: Select Goals in the "Performance" section View ScreenshotSelect 'Goals' in Performance section of homepage
    2. Option 2: Select Home in the top-left to open dropdown menu. Then, select GoalsView ScreenshotSelect 'Home' then 'Goals'
  3. Both of the above options will take you first to your own Goal Plan. To access a direct report's Goal Plan, select the arrow to the right of your name in the top-left. View ScreenshotAccess employee's goal plan via arrow to right of your name in top-left
  4. Then select the employee's name from the Direct Reports section of the dropdown menu.
  5. From there you will arrive at the employee's Goal Plan. View ScreenshotExample employee goal plan
  6. From the options in the top-right, select Add Goal View ScreenshotSelect 'Add Goal'
  7. Then select from two options:
    1. Add Goal to PlanView ScreenshotSelect 'Add Goal to Plan'
      1. Allows you to make up your own "Custom" goal or select a pre-existing goal from the "Goal Library" and assign any metrics you want.
    2. Copy From Other Goal Plan
      1. Allows you to copy a goal from a different goal plan to this one.
  8. Create a goal via one of two options:
    1. Option 1: To create your own goal, select Create Goal > Follow instructions below for Add Your Own Custom Goal Via "Create Goal"View ScreenshotSelect 'Create Goal'
    2. Option 2: To choose a pre-existing goal from the library, select Library Goal > Follow instructions below for Add Pre-Existing Goal Via "Library Goal"View ScreenshotSelect 'Library Goal'

Add Your Own Custom Goal Via "Create Goal"

  1. Select the Category (i.e., Employee Goals, Professional Development Goal, or Other)View ScreenshotSelect the Category
  2. Enter a Goal Name (i.e., brief description goal title)View ScreenshotEnter a goal name
  3. Enter your Goal Description View ScreenshotEnter your Goal Description
    1. Description should be concise but detailed.
    2. Recommend using the SMART technique (i.e., goals that are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely).
  4. (Optional) To add specific Tasks to the goal, select + Add Tasks View ScreenshotSelect +Add Tasks
    1. Enter a Task DescriptionView ScreenshotEnter a Task Description
    2. Enter the Start Date and End Date in the required format (MM/DD/YYYY) View ScreenshotEnter a task dates
    3. Add more Tasks by selecting the plus sign in the "Action" columnView ScreenshotSelect the plus sign in the Action column to add more tasks
    4. If multiple Tasks are added they can be reordered using the up/down arrows in the "Action" columnView ScreenshotReorder tasks with up/down arrows in Action column
    5. Delete Tasks by selecting the trash can icon in the "Action" columnView ScreenshotSelect red X to delete tasks
  5. Enter the Measure of Success (i.e., how the success of the goal will be measured). View ScreenshotEnter the Measure of Succes
    1. Remember the SMART technique when establishing the measure of success.
  6. Enter the Start Date and End Date for the goal in the required format (MM/DD/YYYY)View ScreenshotEnter start and end dates
  7. (Optional) Select spell check in any of the text fields to check spellingView ScreenshotSpell check option
  8. (Optional) Select legal scan in any of the text fields to have the language reviewed for suggested changesView ScreenshotLegal scan option
  9. Select Save Changes to save the goal to the goal plan View ScreenshotSave changes

Add Pre-Existing Goal Via "Library Goal"

  1. In the field labeled Category select the Goal CategoryView ScreenshotSelect the category
  2. Select the Sub-Category (e.g., Administrative Support, Office Management, etc.)View ScreenshotSelect the sub-category
  3. If applicable, select the Sub Sub-CategoryView ScreenshotSelect the sub sub-category
  4. After selecting the specific category/sub-category, you will see two columns: 1) Goal Name; and 2) Measure of SuccessView ScreenshotColumns for Goal Name and Measure of Success
  5. Select a Goal by selecting the checkbox to the left of the Goal.View ScreenshotSelect the checkbox to left of goal
  6. On the next screen, notice that the Goal Name, Goal Description and Measure of Success are pre-filled from the Goal Library.View ScreenshotNotice the content pre-filled from Goal Library The supervisor can edit these fields if needed.
  7. (Optional) To add specific Tasks to the goal, select + Add Tasks View ScreenshotSelect +Add Tasks

Copy Goals

  1. Select Add Goal from the top-right options View ScreenshotSelect 'Add New' from top-right
  2. Then, select Copy From Another Goal PlanView Screenshotselect Copy From Another Goal Plan
  3. Then, select the circular checkbox to the left of the specific Goal Plan you want to copy from - and then, select NextView ScreenshotSelect Goal Plan to copy from
  4. Then, select the checkbox to the left of the goal(s) you wish to copy - and then, select CopyView ScreenshotSelect goal checkbox then select 'Copy'

Edit Goals

  1. Select the blue Edit link to the right of the Goal NameView ScreenshotSelect blue edit link to right of goal name
  2. Make any necessary changes to any editable field (e.g., category, goal name, description, tasks, measure of success, dates)
  3. Select Save ChangesView ScreenshotSelect 'Save Changes'

Delete Goals

  1. Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View ScreenshotSelect the ellipsis in 'Action' column in top-right
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Delete goalView ScreenshotSelect 'Delete Goal'
    1. NOTE - The supervisor should always speak with the employee before deleting a goal from their plan.

Add a Goal to Outlook

  1. Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View ScreenshotSelect ellipsis under 'Action' column in top-right
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Add Goal to Outlook View ScreenshotSelect 'Add Goal to Outlook'
  3. This action will open an Outlook calendar invite.
    1. The following information will be pre-filled automatically:
      1. Subject with the goal name
      2. The body with the goal name and goal description
      3. The start date of the invitation defaults to the due date of the goal.
  4. The supervisor can send the Outlook calendar invitation to the employee for whom them have set the goal.

Change the Order of Goals

  1. Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View ScreenshotSelect ellipsis under 'Action' column in top-right
  2. If the employee has more than one goal within the goal category, the supervisor will have the option to Move Goal Down or Move Goal Up View ScreenshotOptions for Move Goal Up/Down
  3. If the employee has more than two goals, both Move Goal Down and Move Goal Up will be available

How to Provide Progress Updates on Goals

Throughout the evaluation period, it is expected that the employee and supervisor provide progress updates and feedback on the established goals.

To provide progress updates:

  1. Select the blue Edit link to the right of the Goal NameView ScreenshotSelect blue edit link to right of goal name
  2. To provide a progress update, select + Add Progress Update in the Progress Update field. View ScreenshotSelect + Add Progress Update
    1. Enter the date of the progress update in the Date Entered field View ScreenshotEnter progress update date
    2. Enter comments in the Progress Comments field View ScreenshotEnter progress comments
      1. Comments may include:
        1. What the employee has accomplished thus far
        2. Any additional action needed
  3. Additional progress updates can be added by selecting the plus sign in the "Action" options within the Progress Update field View ScreenshotAdd progress updates via plus sign button
  4. If multiple progress updates are added, they can be moved via the up/down arrows in the "Action" options within the Progress Update field. View ScreenshotReorder updates via up/down arrows
  5. Delete Progress Updates by selecting the trash can icon in the "Action" column View ScreenshotDelete progress updates via red X button
  6. Select Save Changes to save the progress update(s) and return to the Goal PlanView ScreenshotSelect save changes to save and return to Goal Plan
  7. The progress updates will appear on the goal within the Goal PlanView ScreenshotProgress updates appear on Goal Plan

Cascade a Goal

Cascading a goal allows a supervisor to select a goal from their own goal plan and “cascade” or push their goal down to an employee that reports to them. The supervisor starts from their own goal plan.

  1. From your own Goal Plan, select the check box to the left of the Goal NameView ScreenshotFrom own goal plan, select checkbox to left of goal name
  2. With the goal checked, select Actions in the top-right menu options at the top of the page View ScreenshotWith goal checked, select 'Actions' in top-right
  3. Select Cascade in lower-right View ScreenshotSelect 'Cascade' in lower-right
  4. From the fly-out window, select the checkbox next to the name(s) of the employee(s) you want to cascade the goal to. Then, select Next. View ScreenshotSelect checkbox to left of employee names to cascade to
  5. The supervisor then has the option to edit the goal before cascading it.
  6. Once any necessary changes have been made, select CascadeView ScreenshotOnce any changes made, select 'Cascade'
  7. Once the goal has been cascaded, a "Cascaded Goal" alert will show on the supervisor's Goal Plan
  8. A "Cascaded by..." alert also displays on the Goal Plan of employees who received the cascaded goal

Review Goal Changes Made by the Employee

When a supervisor makes changes to a goal the employee will receive an email notification and an alert will show up on the goal plan. Additionally, when an employee makes changes to their goals, the supervisor will receive an email notification.

To view the changes that were made by the employee:

  1. Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View ScreenshotSelect ellipsis below 'Action' column in top-right
  2. Select View Goal Detail to see what was changed. Highlighted areas show what was edited. View ScreenshotSelect 'View Goal Detail' to see changes
  3. See the Audit History section for a history of goal changes View ScreenshotAudit history
  4. To see the goal before the changes, select the blue View link to the right of the User who made the change View ScreenshotSelect blue 'View' link to right of User
    1. Selecting View allows the employee and supervisor to see individual changes to the goal
    2. The goal history is also displayed

Additional Goal Plan Functions

Display Options

  1. Return to Goal Plan page
  2. Select Display Options in the top-right to see available display options View ScreenshotSelect 'Display Options' in top-right
  3. Then, select what information is displayed within the Goal Plan by selecting the checkboxes to the right of the display options in the dropdown list - and then, selecting Update View ScreenshotSelect checkboxes for display options

Print

  1. Return to Goal Plan page
  2. To print the Goal Plan, select Actions in the top-right View ScreenshotSelect ellipsis below 'Action' column in top-right
  3. Select Print to HTML or PDFView ScreenshotSelect 'Print to HTML or PDF'
  4. Select PDF format by selecting the circular checkbox to the left, then select Open View ScreenshotSelect PDF format then select Open
  5. After the document opens in the preview, select the print icon from the menu options
