Access Direct Report's Goal Plan and Add a Goal
- Log in to MyTalent with your KU online ID and password
- You can access your direct report's Goal Plan via one of two options:
- Option 1: Select Goals in the "Performance" section View Screenshot
- Option 2: Select Home in the top-left to open dropdown menu. Then, select GoalsView Screenshot
- Both of the above options will take you first to your own Goal Plan. To access a direct report's Goal Plan, select the arrow to the right of your name in the top-left. View Screenshot
- Then select the employee's name from the Direct Reports section of the dropdown menu.
- From there you will arrive at the employee's Goal Plan. View Screenshot
- From the options in the top-right, select Add Goal View Screenshot
- Then select from two options:
- Add Goal to PlanView Screenshot
- Allows you to make up your own "Custom" goal or select a pre-existing goal from the "Goal Library" and assign any metrics you want.
- Copy From Other Goal Plan
- Allows you to copy a goal from a different goal plan to this one.

- Create a goal via one of two options:
- Option 1: To create your own goal, select Create Goal > Follow instructions below for Add Your Own Custom Goal Via "Create Goal"View Screenshot
- Option 2: To choose a pre-existing goal from the library, select Library Goal > Follow instructions below for Add Pre-Existing Goal Via "Library Goal"View Screenshot
Add Your Own Custom Goal Via "Create Goal"
- Select the Category (i.e., Employee Goals, Professional Development Goal, or Other)View Screenshot
- Enter a Goal Name (i.e., brief description goal title)View Screenshot
- Enter your Goal Description View Screenshot
- Description should be concise but detailed.
- Recommend using the SMART technique (i.e., goals that are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely).
- (Optional) To add specific Tasks to the goal, select + Add Tasks View Screenshot
- Enter a Task DescriptionView Screenshot
- Enter the Start Date and End Date in the required format (MM/DD/YYYY) View Screenshot
- Add more Tasks by selecting the plus sign in the "Action" columnView Screenshot
- If multiple Tasks are added they can be reordered using the up/down arrows in the "Action" columnView Screenshot
- Delete Tasks by selecting the trash can icon in the "Action" columnView Screenshot
- Enter the Measure of Success (i.e., how the success of the goal will be measured). View Screenshot
- Remember the SMART technique when establishing the measure of success.
- Enter the Start Date and End Date for the goal in the required format (MM/DD/YYYY)View Screenshot
- (Optional) Select spell check in any of the text fields to check spellingView Screenshot
- (Optional) Select legal scan in any of the text fields to have the language reviewed for suggested changesView Screenshot
- Select Save Changes to save the goal to the goal plan View Screenshot
Add Pre-Existing Goal Via "Library Goal"
- In the field labeled Category select the Goal CategoryView Screenshot
- Select the Sub-Category (e.g., Administrative Support, Office Management, etc.)View Screenshot
- If applicable, select the Sub Sub-CategoryView Screenshot
- After selecting the specific category/sub-category, you will see two columns: 1) Goal Name; and 2) Measure of SuccessView Screenshot
- Select a Goal by selecting the checkbox to the left of the Goal.View Screenshot
- On the next screen, notice that the Goal Name, Goal Description and Measure of Success are pre-filled from the Goal Library.View Screenshot The supervisor can edit these fields if needed.

- Select Save Changes to save the goal to the goal plan View Screenshot
Copy Goals
- Select Add Goal from the top-right options View Screenshot
- Then, select Copy From Another Goal PlanView Screenshot
- Then, select the circular checkbox to the left of the specific Goal Plan you want to copy from - and then, select NextView Screenshot
- Then, select the checkbox to the left of the goal(s) you wish to copy - and then, select CopyView Screenshot
Edit Goals
- Select the blue Edit link to the right of the Goal NameView Screenshot
- Make any necessary changes to any editable field (e.g., category, goal name, description, tasks, measure of success, dates)
- Select Save ChangesView Screenshot
Delete Goals
- Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View Screenshot
- From the dropdown menu, select Delete goalView Screenshot
- NOTE - The supervisor should always speak with the employee before deleting a goal from their plan.
Add a Goal to Outlook
- Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View Screenshot
- From the dropdown menu, select Add Goal to Outlook View Screenshot
- This action will open an Outlook calendar invite.
- The following information will be pre-filled automatically:
- Subject with the goal name
- The body with the goal name and goal description
- The start date of the invitation defaults to the due date of the goal.
- The following information will be pre-filled automatically:
- The supervisor can send the Outlook calendar invitation to the employee for whom them have set the goal.
Change the Order of Goals
- Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View Screenshot
- If the employee has more than one goal within the goal category, the supervisor will have the option to Move Goal Down or Move Goal Up View Screenshot
- If the employee has more than two goals, both Move Goal Down and Move Goal Up will be available
How to Provide Progress Updates on Goals
Throughout the evaluation period, it is expected that the employee and supervisor provide progress updates and feedback on the established goals.
To provide progress updates:
- Select the blue Edit link to the right of the Goal NameView Screenshot
- To provide a progress update, select + Add Progress Update in the Progress Update field. View Screenshot
- Enter the date of the progress update in the Date Entered field View Screenshot
- Enter comments in the Progress Comments field View Screenshot
- Comments may include:
- What the employee has accomplished thus far
- Any additional action needed
- Comments may include:
- Additional progress updates can be added by selecting the plus sign in the "Action" options within the Progress Update field View Screenshot
- If multiple progress updates are added, they can be moved via the up/down arrows in the "Action" options within the Progress Update field. View Screenshot
- Delete Progress Updates by selecting the trash can icon in the "Action" column View Screenshot
- Select Save Changes to save the progress update(s) and return to the Goal PlanView Screenshot
- The progress updates will appear on the goal within the Goal PlanView Screenshot
Cascade a Goal
Cascading a goal allows a supervisor to select a goal from their own goal plan and “cascade” or push their goal down to an employee that reports to them. The supervisor starts from their own goal plan.
- From your own Goal Plan, select the check box to the left of the Goal NameView Screenshot
- With the goal checked, select Actions in the top-right menu options at the top of the page View Screenshot
- Select Cascade in lower-right View Screenshot
- From the fly-out window, select the checkbox next to the name(s) of the employee(s) you want to cascade the goal to. Then, select Next. View Screenshot
- The supervisor then has the option to edit the goal before cascading it.
- Once any necessary changes have been made, select CascadeView Screenshot
- Once the goal has been cascaded, a "Cascaded Goal" alert will show on the supervisor's Goal Plan
- A "Cascaded by..." alert also displays on the Goal Plan of employees who received the cascaded goal
Review Goal Changes Made by the Employee
When a supervisor makes changes to a goal the employee will receive an email notification and an alert will show up on the goal plan. Additionally, when an employee makes changes to their goals, the supervisor will receive an email notification.
To view the changes that were made by the employee:
- Select the vertical ellipsis (i.e., three dots) below the column header Action in the top-right View Screenshot
- Select View Goal Detail to see what was changed. Highlighted areas show what was edited. View Screenshot
- See the Audit History section for a history of goal changes View Screenshot
- To see the goal before the changes, select the blue View link to the right of the User who made the change View Screenshot
- Selecting View allows the employee and supervisor to see individual changes to the goal
- The goal history is also displayed
Additional Goal Plan Functions
Display Options
- Return to Goal Plan page
- Select Display Options in the top-right to see available display options View Screenshot
- Then, select what information is displayed within the Goal Plan by selecting the checkboxes to the right of the display options in the dropdown list - and then, selecting Update View Screenshot
- Return to Goal Plan page
- To print the Goal Plan, select Actions in the top-right View Screenshot
- Select Print to HTML or PDFView Screenshot
- Select PDF format by selecting the circular checkbox to the left, then select Open View Screenshot
- After the document opens in the preview, select the print icon from the menu options
